The unplanned expat blogger behind Relocate & Thrive

Hi there, I'm Alessia
I work as a project manager, I'm a parent, and I’m an expat living in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Italy wasn't part of the long-term plan. Like many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. Gradually, routines took shape. We found places that worked for us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Relocate & Thrive
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to close that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Italy.
What This Site Represents (And What It Isn't)
This site IS:
- Hands-on experience from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll keep recording what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Alessia
